I used a pup tent in the Army from 93-98, when I was in a unit that required us to do so. These tents are awesome. Make sure that your purchase is for 2 shelter halves, you will need both to make 1 tent. For those of you who have never used this style of tent, there are a few key differences that you should take into account before buying one. First---There is no floor. I recommend using a poncho for a make shift floor, before throwing your sleeping bags down. Second---there are no waterproof components, although you can spray waterproofing spray on them, I highly reccomend you dont. The best way to keep your self dry in the evnent of rain is to use a poncho(again), or a tarp as a lean to barrier. You can also pull the tent stakes as far away from the center as possible, creating tension in the canvass, and make sure the poles are pulled tight as well, dig a trench around the tent, and lead it away from the tent. When the water beads up and rolls off the tent it wont saturate... As a proud "Army Brat", supporting a career U.S.Army Officer Dad, we (kids) always had these tents on our Dad's posts, and were very adept at erecting them . . I recently purchased one of these and it was exactly as I'd remembered . . when you handle your G.I. pup tent, you'll immediately be impressed with the thickness of the material, the rugged hardware (snaps, etc.) and quality accessories . . stakes, poles ( paracord or other rope). Mine is from the Vietnam ear . . tough, rugged and built to last, as it has done to date. If you have never assembled one . . no problem . . dial up YouTube on your computer and enter "assembling a G.I. pup tent." Numerous enthusiasts will demonstrate how to assemble it, and after disassembling it . . how to "pack it." If you have a "Bug Out Bag"., this is an extremely significant consideration . . Shelter!Remember, if you're not prepared all the time . . you're never prepared. Stay safe! |
